The Mouse and the Motorcycle at Spruce Ridge

Spruce Ridge School did their annual One School One Book event during the month of January. Each family was given a free copy of the book, The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary, and they were encouraged to read or listen to the chapters TOGETHER as a family. There were daily trivia questions, a “Design Your Own Motorcycle” contest, and a Character Dress-up Day.  Many of these activities involved prizes and helped to motivate students to read the book.

On January 30th, when we had finished reading the book, the SCC organized a “Marvelous Mouse and Motorcycle Celebration.” This was a free event for families at the school, designed to enrich the shared reading experience. Students who attended received a passport, which they could get stamped at each station: playing games in the gym, making a mouse craft, watching a video, playing the “Mouse Trap board game, and reading books about mice. And, of course, we gave students a snack: cheese and crackers! There were lots of prizes, and students had lots of fun too. It was a huge success, with over 150 people attending the event.
